When The Blows Rained Down

I wrote another 100-word story for this month’s challenge.

In the story, a woman’s lover beats her for the first time.

It happens so fast it barely has time to register.

We’re sitting watching TV, I don’t know what show, chatting about our day and eating, just an ordinary Friday night.

I made some inane comment about the TV or the weather or something equally unimportant.

His hand comes out of nowhere and he belts me right in the face, so hard it makes my head rock. I drop my food onto the floor.

I stare at him, face wet with tears, face stinging. He looks like he wants to kill me.

Before I can defend myself he hits me again.
