BLURB: Ronnie Rose is a terrible mother.

Pregnant at sixteen to a much older man who enthralled her, she’s never bonded with her children. Her husband likes his women young and perky and grows tired when her body fills out. She seeks refuge from an unhappy marriage in the bottom of a bottle of vodka while her children raise themselves.

Years later, everything changes when Sarah is born. Her daughter is a mistake, a change of life baby and her husband wants her to have a termination. Ronnie refuses. She wants and loves the life growing inside her more than she has anything in her life.

When Sarah goes missing, Ronnie’s life is torn apart. Dark secrets threaten to destroy her. Who is the secret boyfriend known only as MusicLover and what are his true intentions? What really happened at the unsupervised party for Sarah’s sixteen birthday? When was Sarah planning to tell her mother she’s pregnant and who’s the father?

Who can you trust when your whole life has been built on lies?

Into The Darkest Places, Part 1, Chapter 1

Brown Tree in the ForestI started writing the first draft of my new novel, Into The Darkest Places.

This is a literary crime novel and a sequel to The Ballad of Sarah Rose.

The novel, like The Ballad of Sarah Rose will be split into different sections with several chapters per section.

The novel will have one main, POV character, Jena, the sister of the girl who goes missing in The Ballad of Sarah Rose. This novel takes place almost two years after the events of The Ballad of Sarah Rose when Jena and her family realise their nightmare is far from over.

The first section is called My Little Eye. I wrote Chapter 1.

Jena is singing with her band on stage at a local bar. A couple canoodling in the corner catch her attention; it’s her estranged lover Bobby and her twin sister, Helena. Jena takes a break from performing and confronts them. Bobby admits they have been seeing each other for some time. Jena is furious, yelling and shouting at them both. She goes to slap Helena when Bobby confirms she’s pregnant with her child.

FINAL EDIT: Debut Crime Novel

Brown Tree in the ForestI continued the final edit of my debut crime novel.

The novel is written in the third person with multiple character viewpoints. This isn’t always clear. I decided to make the heading of each chapter the character and date so the timeline is easier to follow (i.e. Ronnie, 2 May 2014).

There are also some minor cuts and tweaks.

FINAL EDIT: Debut Crime Novel

Brown Tree in the ForestI started the final edit of my debut crime novel.

I thought I was done with this over a year ago and started sending it out to agents and publishers.

It’s been rejected a couple of times.

I didn’t get any specific feedback but decided to have another look at it. I discovered there are a few changes to make.

The first chapter is too weak to open with so I’ve cut it completely.

Into The Darkest Places, Planning CHAPTER PLAN

I continued pre-writing my new novel, Into The Darkest Places.

I continued the final stage, writing the chapter plan.

The novel will be split into sections. The sections are numbered. I may decide on a title at a later date.

I wrote the chapter plan for section 15.

This section focus on one major event across four chapters:

  • Jena has a flashback of what really happened during her ‘car accident’

Things are getting very dark and twisted.

Into The Darkest Places, Planning CHAPTER PLAN

I finished pre-writing my new novel, Into The Darkest Places.

I finished the final stage, writing the chapter plan.

The novel will be split into sections. The sections are numbered. I may decide on a title at a later date.

I wrote the chapter plan for section 15.

This section will deal with three main events split across five chapters:

  • Jena is having breakfast one morning when a masked man enters the house, knocks her out and takes her to the woods
  • Jena is held prisoner at a cabin in the woods and raped and tortured by a madman wearing a mask
  • The man removes his mask, revealing himself to be Jeff, her best friend and someone she’s known since she was a  child

I wrote the chapter plan for section 16:

This section deals with 5 events across five chapters.

  • Jeff, clearly deranged confesses to killing Sarah a year before for being a cock tease
  • Jeff confesses to being the cause of her ‘car accident’ and setting the whole thing up to get her out of the way while he took out her family
  • Jeff confesses to drugging her since she came to live with him to make her vulnerable and easy to control
  • Jeff tells her she needs to die for choosing Greg over him
  • Jeff violently attacks her, stabbing her several times but is shot in the back of the head by Greg

I wrote the chapter plan for section 17:

This section deals with 3 events across four chapters.

  • Greg calls an ambulance and reveals he found a secret room in Jeff’s house full of mementos of the recent murders
  • The police discover Bobby’s body buried in the foundations of the cabin and discover Jeff kept him alive for a long as possible, planting his DNA at the crimes scenes
  • The police discover evidence confirming Jeff killed Sara and was the serial killer known locally as The Butcher

I wrote the chapter plan for the final section 18:

This section deals with 4 events across four chapters.

  • Jena and Greg go Bobby and Jeff’s funeral
  • Jena tells Greg she’s sold her parent’s house and is planning on moving away, she needs a fresh start and there’s a lot she needs to get clear in her head
  • Jena tells Greg she loves him but given recent events she can’t be with him
  • Jena packs up her stuff and leaves town

Into The Darkest Places, Planning CHAPTER PLAN

I continued pre-writing my new novel, Into The Darkest Places.

I continued the final stage, writing the chapter plan.

The novel will be split into sections. The sections are numbered. I may decide on a title at a later date.

I wrote the chapter plan for section 13. I’ve stopped using Scrivner. I’ve decided it’s not that impressive so I’m just sticking to what I know.

This section will deal with three main events split across six seven chapters:

  • Jena grows more dependent on Jeff as her nightmares, headaches, dizzy spells and blackouts continue
  • Jena feels obligated to Jeff and goes to bed with him
  • Jeff is furious when Jena reveals he was a mercy fuck and she loves Greg

The Ballad Of Sarah Rose NEW VERSION

Brown Tree in the ForestI continued the new version of my crime novel, The Ballad of Sarah Rose.

There is a lot of work to be done.

I edited three chapters.

In these chapters, Ronnie calls her other children and tells them their baby sister hasn’t come and the police are on their way. They all agree to come over.

Her daughter, Jena, is in an abusive relationship and tries to cover up signs of a beating the night before.

Her son, Owen is about to have a second child with his wife, Saffron.

Her other daughter, Helena, who is Jena’s twin is in denial that her relationship with her lover Libby is falling apart.
